About Kylie Wright
I have been working in the Fine Art Photography realm for 25 years. By the late 90's I was known as a Master printer in NYC, where I printed both color and B&W analog prints for many well-known artists, including Nan Goldin, James Casebere, Shirin Neshat, and many more.
By 1999, it was apparent that the industry was changing; the digital technologies had finally advanced to the point where digital prints could actually rival analog ones. I was amongst the first of the analog printers to take on this technology. During the early part of the 21st century, I helped pioneer a move from analog to digital printing for many of the 20th Century masters of photography, including Stephen Shore, Richard Misrach, Robert Polidori, Andrew Moore, Saul Leiter, Joel Sternfeld, Gregory Crewdson... the list goes on. I was very fortunate to work with these luminaries, and learned from them as we collaborated on everything from gallery and museum shows, to fine art books.
I eventually became Gregory Crewdson's in-house printer during the "Beneath the Roses" project. This was a body of work that was printed entirely in the studio on an Epson 11880 printer. The images were composited from many different negatives, and the final prints were very large. The success of this show prompted other artists to change their workflow, eschewing the bureaucracy of the photo lab for a more creative and controlled workflow in the studio.
In 2006, I started teaching at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I am currently a Professor in the Photography program of Drexel University. In addition, I work on a freelance basis with many artists. Clients, both past and present, include Andrew Moore, Robert Bergman, James Casebere, and Robert Polidori. I work for artists that span the globe, from Norway to New Zealand. I have guest lectured in many venues, including Bennington College, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and International Center of Photography. I also appeared in the documentary film about Gregory Crewdson; "Brief Encounter".
Services I offer range from retouching and digital imaging/compositing, to scanning and printing. Also available are consultations for the artist who is setting up their own digital darkroom and need guidance pertaining to equipment, calibration issues, etc.
